LocationThe cottage is situated in the old part of the village of Lanvallay, the village has a good bakery, banks restaurants and a supermarket, all within 10 minutes walk of the cottage. Dinan's picturesque port area is also close by, you can walk it in 15 minutes or drive it in less than five. On the port there's a good selection of riverside restaurants and cafés.. On the port, you can take a boat trip to the old citadel port of St. Malo or hire a self drive boat and explore the delightful river Rance. You can also hire a bike here, and ride along the tow path. Ten minutes upstream is the picturesque village of Lehon with its own castle, twelfth century abbey and open air heated swimming pool complex. You can reach the historic centre of Dinan by the cobbled Rue du Jerzual (a pretty steep climb, but worth the effort - it's lined with beautiful houses, restaurants and artists' galleries). Dinan is a beautiful, well preserved medieval town, with a fine collection of timber framed buildings, many good restaurants, bistros and individual owned shops. There is also an impressive castle and high stone town walls you can walk around and take in the views.

The cottage is well placed as a base to explore the region - the North Brittany coast is about a 30 minute drive away where you can find some superb sandy beaches. The walled town of St Malo with it's bustling 'intra muros' area is about the same distance, the beaches here are large and sandy and the town has some great seafood restaurants. The impressive Abbey of Mont St Michel, rising high above the sea, is also not far and well worth a visit.
